Be part of a powerful community
bringing healing into the world.
“If you don’t heal the wounds of your childhood, you bleed into the future.”
- Oprah Winfrey
My name is Yemi Penn, a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, now a mother of two, an Engineer, Entrepreneur and Transformation Healer & Coach.
When I realised that my unresolved childhood trauma was impacting how I parent, I knew that I had to acknowledge what happened and do the work of healing it. This lead me down a transformative path, where I have been able to continue transmuting my pain into power. I am now an international speaker helping others find and use their voice.
Along the way, I have learned how prevalent trauma is and the damaging ripple effects of letting it go unaddressed.
In 2020, I produced a pilot documentary called
“Did I choose my trauma?” where I share my story and speak to traditional and non-traditional therapists.
The pilot has had a big impact but more needs to be done.
I am building a community to help turn the pilot into a feature-length documentary.
It’s time we start talking about what we’ve been through and know the avenues to process those experiences in a healthy way.

Reviews of the pilot:
“Nobody really talks about this in such an in-depth way”
“We need more free resources similar to this and on a much bigger scale”
But there is so much more to the story...
Because trauma affects most of us, for this work to have its full impact, its needs to be widely seen.
So we are working on turning the pilot into an 80-minute documentary, that can be screened in cinemas and broadcast on streaming platforms like Netflix, Prime, Hulu and much more.
In June 2021, we are launching a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to raise $20,000 towards the production budget.
You are invited to be part of the community that brings the full-length documentary, “Do we Choose the experiences our Trauma teaches us” into production and to the big screen.

The feature-length documentary shows how you can transmute the pain of a traumatic experience into power. It follows Yemi as she ventures back to her place of origin, Lagos, Nigeria, where she was sexually abused as a child by her uncle. She attempts to meet with elders in the community to understand the 'taboo' element of this type of trauma. She travels to the other parts of the world she had 'run away' to in the hope of healing, Japan and the United Kingdom. Finally, she travels back to Nigeria, where she will seek to meet with her uncle, in the hope of finding meaning behind the pain, maybe even an answer to how it forms part of her life purpose.
Alongside Yemi's journey, the documentary will feature the stories of others who have traveled with trauma: a war veteran who struggled to assimilate back into civilian life, a cancer patient who has come back from a diagnosis of early death, and a descendant of the indigenous stolen generation, looking at intergenerational trauma. These conversations with those who have struggled and thrived after trauma will light a path to healing.
This documentary is interspersed with insight from psychologists, psychotherapists, and alternative healers who speak to the impact of trauma and the possible transformative results of committing to its healing.
